SBP
Sharing Business Policies
Several NPOKI members have been hard at work creating systems to track the standard operating procedures and effective practices of their organization. These SOPs can cover every division of an international organization, including operations, programs, development, and corporate matters. Most have used the convention of an “intranet” to house this information. The best example we’ve seen is EngenderHealth’s SOP Database.
We propose to build SBP, the prototype for a standard operating procedures dataset:
- Build a web-based virtual repository of standard operating procedures and best practices, using content submitted by the NPOKI membership
- The model for this is the EngenderHealth SOP web site
- Include Use Cases to capture the functional requirements of a system or solution
- The prototype could be used by member organizations to house their own best practices/lessons learned.
A use case is a technique to capture the functional requirements of a system or solution. Use cases describe the interaction between a primary actor — the initiator of the interaction — and the system itself, represented as a sequence of simple steps. Use cases allow description of sequences of events that, taken together, lead to a system doing something useful.

This project would be done in two parts:
- Resources (staff) from participating beta organizations would collaborate in the creation a generic SOP web site.
- NPOKI would install the new generic web site for beta tester, and work with them to develop the processes needed to repurpose it for their organization, including implementing the needed the security and search features.
SBP is freely available to all NPOKI members.
